This is one of my absolute favorites. I think it’s one of the funniest last panels I’ve ever come up with. So, of course, only about half the people who read it actually get it. This one gets knocked down by a lot of people for not standing too well on its own. I suppose that’s true, but I always argue that if you read along carefully, it becomes quite obvious just who the anesthesiologist is.
“But…if you have to read it so carefully…can it really be all that funny? If you make people work too hard, isn’t that just bad writing?”
Probably, but what can I say? It makes me laugh.
This episode also introduces the Space Pig. Oh, the Space Pig. People are sick. I don’t know why they’re so fascinated with a pig that flies and pees on people, but THEY ARE. Go figure.
This also marked the last strip of the first set of 10 that I did on my MySpace blog. After this one, I had no ideas left. I knew I was ending on a cliffhanger, but I didn’t know where to go from there and, with the experiment over, I just ended it.
The problem was, no one would let me just end it. The couple hundred people that were following the SuperFogeys on MySpace really fell in love with the strip and begged me to continue making it.
