THE ANNOTATED SuperFogeys 230

Today's strip once again dips into a story I keep brushing up against but never really tell. Don't worry. The upcoming SuperFogeys Origins story, "The Six Wives of Captain Spectacular" will finally put everything together.  For now, here's some links to past appearances of Tom and his mother.

We first glimpsed them both here.

We saw Tom's mother with his father for the first time here, and then baby Tom for the first time here.

Swifty talked about Tom's estrangement from his father here.

And, of course, Tom told his own story starting here, in a story that will wrap up on Tuesday.

Hope that helps!  Not essential reading to understanding what's going on, but I know some of you like these links at the very least as refreshers.

ATTN FRESNO RESIDENTS! SUPERFOGEYS NOW ON SALE!

Of course you can order SuperFogeys Volume One in the SuperFogeys Store, but yesterday I dropped off FIVE copies of the book at Heroes Comics at Shaw and Hwy 41 in Fresno. No idea how fast these books are gonna sell (or if at all), but if you live in Fresno, want one, and want to skip the hassle of shipping costs, I suggest you get on over there!

COMING UP IN SUPERFOGEYS ORIGINS...

Thought you guys might like to see some sample art from upcoming SuperFogeys Origins artists. Some of this art is pretty final, some is still in early stages. No context here, just a few images.

Art by Rossana Bugini, from "The Six Wives of Captain Spectacular"

Art by Krishna Sadasivam, from "Spy Gal vs. Star Maiden"

Art by Charles P. Wilson III, from "Harvey the Science Rabbit, Part 2"

NEXT WEEK:

On Tuesday, Tom finishes his tale with a whimper and a plea. On Thursday, he has a bit of news to share with the Captain...news the Captain isn't gonna like.

I can't wait for that 6 Wives Origin!

The dialogue in this one is class SF, Brock. Well done as always.

Looks like a SFO story is turning into the thing all the cool kids do. It's the webcomics equivalent of a cameo on "Entourage".

you know what dad,we all got to die sometime! And if a jetpack kills me then so be it!

What did you do to Michelle?! I was unaware! unaware!!
seriously can't wait to read six wives!

So Cap should buy Tom a Cessna, have a hamburger, and chill out a bit. Sorry, my lifepartner's a pilot. I can't seem to resonate with flying being a problem here.

Mike J. - Thanks, man. I think 6 Wives is gonna blow people away--if only because of the art.

Greg B. - Haha. Yeah, kind of. The enthusiasm for giving SFO a shot has really surprised me. Cool, cool stuff ahead. My biggest problem right now is turning out the scripts fast enough!

Tyler D. - What a way to go, right?

Bullfinch - Muwahaha. You'll see. You didn't think I'd told you all my secrets, did you?

Sio - I don't think flying is really the issue. But jetpacks? Even a pilot would have to agree that's pretty dicey.

EEN - Awesome theory. A bit of leap, but a great theory.

love toms eyes in this one brock. tom just keeps getting more disturbed, this rabbit hole is deep.

so Michelle must be someone kinda famous to get a statue.

im very eager to read the 3 new origin stories, but come on 4 fingers?

He can always switch to the Bell Rocket Belt.

On the "statue", what is up with her right thumb? Isn't it on the wrong side?

ha ha, last panel cracked me up. damn kids!

The sketches and samples look AWESOME. Looking forward to all the new Origins stories.

Artisan54 - Tom's rabbit hole is indeed very deep. You'll get more on that on Tuesday as his Origin ends. As for the four fingers...hey, I leave it up the artists. I think for a more realistic style (which both Rossana and Charles obviously use), that's really the way to go.

Rufus Edge - That would certainly be the smarter way to go, but not as agile, no?

Skeptible - No...it looks right to me. I tried posing that way and it was simple enough. If your hand is palm up in front of you, your thumbs face out.

DGriff13 - I admit I made myself laugh with this one--which is usually a sure sign that no one else will find it funny! You've proven me wrong, Dawn. Thanks!

Ah, ah, ah! I think I pegged that one back in the comments for #226! Who better would understand... oh, #%@&*!... could HE be dating Spy Gal's daughter, and SHE be dating one of Tangerine's sons?

Ooooh... my brain hurts!

Tad says...

I just assumed she was a victim of some evil plot that petrified her.

Dierna says...

Geesh Cap. Your son's a grown man. Let him do whatever he wants since it makes him happy!! Sure he's a bit of a nutter....but the jet pack thing calms him....

Can't wait to see the 6 wives of Capt Spectacular! Wonder if there's statues for all 6 of em? *lol*

Brock says...

posted 10/23/09 4:50 pm

Uncle Al - Credit where credit where is due--you're absolutely right. You were the first to posit that theory. Like where you're going with the other theories. All present intriguing possibilities. You'll find definitively soon.

Tad - I like that it's become a matter of debate. I don't think I'm spoiling too much to say that the debate will be over after the Six Wives story.

Dierna - Six statues? How awesome would that be?

Personally, I think Cap has a fair point. Besides...your argument could also hold true for someone who does cocaine, right?

theasley says...

posted 10/23/09 7:07 pm

So does this mean Tom is the oldest of Cap's children?

When are we gonna be able to order Harvey t-shirts?

Brock says...

posted 10/24/09 12:00 pm

THeasley - The oldest of Cap's children? You're assuming he has others. So far, we know of none.

As for Harvey T-Shirts...I have a few T-shirts ideas I want to get up soon, but I never thought of Harvey! Is there a demand for him?

Dierna says...

posted 10/26/09 12:09 am

Harvey is certainly popular enough. A Harvey t-shirt would totally rock.

cartoonistwill says...

posted 10/26/09 8:50 pm

There's a story here

CartoonistWill says...

posted 10/29/09 7:21 pm

Is Harvey the bunny? Well, okay, but only if it's violent and gratuitous.
