ANOTHER ARTIST CLIMBS ABOARD THE SUPERFOGEYS ORIGINS EXPRESS TRAIN

Tuesday, as I was rewriting the script (again) for the today's strip, I got a flash of an idea for an Origin story that I knew I just had to tell. The idea that Tom and Ms. Missile are together (which some of you had sussed out before today--my hat's off to you) is one that's rife with possibilities that I just don't have room to explore here in the strip proper. But, the one story that I do want to tell is exactly how these two crazy kids got together in the first place.

I knew that I could tell the story in about one or two pages, perfect for an artist that might have a little extra time on his or her hands. One artist in particular came immediately to mind thanks to an interview he did on Tall Tale Radio last week. He's an artist I've been aware of for a while, but I had never spoken to him formally and had no idea if he'd be up for it.

Well, he was, and now I'm pleased to announce that Marc Lapierre of Boxcar Astronaut will be doing a 2-page SuperFogeys Origin entitled "When Tom Met Ms. Missile!" Marc is a fantastic artist with chops and he's gonna bring a really different flavor to SFO. You must check out Marc's comic, which I introduced to Dictator Tot last night. She fell in love and kept on reading one after another until her mom made her stop and get to bed. But she'll be back. Oh, she'll be back.

I just happened to catch Marc at the right time, so you'll be enjoying this little tale right after the conclusion of Krishna Sadasivam's run, which starts this Tuesday. Believe it or not, I was actually able to turn out the entire Tom and Ms. Missile script last night. Not that it was a rush job--this story actually contains some of my most favorite dialogue that I've come up with.

Anyways, get excited. Lots of great artists coming up on SFO.  It's gonna be almost like a who's who of webcomics for the next long while. This is a very good thing.

SALES

I'll admit that sales on SuperFogeys Volume One have been a bit slower than I'd hoped for. If you're so inclined, please do stop by the SuperFogeys Store and check out this fantastic, definitive collection of Chapters 1-5.

Already have yours?  Tell us about it the comments and/or send me a photo with you and the book and I'll post it!

NEXT WEEK:

On Tuesday, "Spy Gal vs. Star Maiden" with art by Krishna "PC Weenies" Sadasivam kicks off. Then, on Thursday, be back here as we catch up with Spy Gal and her family!  Cami returns!

Is this in with the current timeline? So like...did Dr. Rocket come back into the picture to kick some tail?

I don't know what it is about this one, but I find it visually stunning. Great layout, composition, color. Nice work.

Have you blogged about that picture on the wall? It looks like it could make a great wallpaper, shirt, poster or something.

Todays update looks really good, I especially like Captain Spectacular in the middle panel! The shading in particular stands out I think.

On a side note (this may not be the place to ask), I haven't gotten my SF Vol. 1 yet, I'm assuming they're shipping? Or do you know who I could email to check the status of it?

I had a hunch.

I like the way these two strips with CS and Tom have been laid out.

Honestly, if you don't mind me telling, this really made my day.

I think this is just part of a larger trend of Tom liking things which are not really good for him.

OMG! I can see trouble... and fun!

THeasley - Sounds like someone needs to go back and read Chapter 6...

Lucas - Thanks for that. I didn't think it was gonna be all that special while I was drawing it, but I agree that it's not butt-ugly now. I don't often get compliments on my art, so thanks. As for the picture on the wall...no plans for any of that right now. Really, the idea of it just a rip-off of the cover to Fantastic Four #1.

ED- - Hmm...yes, the books are shipping/have shipped. I'm gonna check on that for you. Thanks for your patience.

Mike J. - Thanks. Trying some new things with the art lately. Looks like it's paying off!

Tyler D. - Well, I guess now we know the source of your addictions!

Si Civa - Really? No idea why, but I'm glad it did!

EEN - That sounds pretty spot on to me.

Yujuhi - That's the plan! Good stuff coming up with those two!

Tom and Ms. Missle?! Hahahahaha.... totally didn't see that coming. I don't see it as revenge I see it as a modern day Romeo/Juliet. :D At least Tom's happy tho....did they meet at the rocketpack anonymous thing?

I got it today! I cried wolf to soon. So, no worries! Now I know what I'll be reading tonight. :)

It's when you're not looking for it, when the best revenge scheme rolls around. awww, love those morals!

I totally dig Marc's work, can't wait to see him draw your guys, Brock!

I meant that it seems strange to see Dr. Rocket again. I know he was planning something in chapter 6, but here he is kind of randomly. My question should really be...are we going to see the development of his plot now?

Brock says...

posted 10/29/09 6:34 pm

Ed- - Very happy you got it! Enjoy and let me know what you think!

Dierna - You didn't see it coming? Awesome. Can't say yet where they met, but you'll have it in a few weeks...

DGriff13 - I've seen the first pencils of Marc's work and it's looking really, really good. Get excited!

THeasley -Methinks you ought to head back a few strips. This isn't the first time Dr. Rocket has shown his face in this Chapter. I believe it was 226? Check and see if that makes a difference. As for developments in Dr. Rocket's own little story...yes, you will be seeing some forward movement soon.

HOLY CRAP!!

That was my immediate and honest reaction. No wonder Dr. Rocket is so elated. BEST PLOT DEVICE EVER.

I KNEW IT! (Or, at least, something like it!) Stand aside, Lieutenant Columbo! I got the dee-ductive mojo working!

Sam says...

Okay I just love the look on Tom's face and even more Cap'n look of "Holy Crap". I totally didn't see it coming, I thought her boyfriend would have been the male orderly; big and dumm.

so i wonder if he is dating her just cause her name is Ms. Missile? you know jetpack and missile similar. ok thats reaching...

but its going to be interesting to see if Missile is still bad after all these years, or if she was ever "bad" to begin with or just by association.

Brock says...

CartoonistWill - Love your reaction. More coolness to come (hopefully!).

Uncle Al - Take a bow, sir. You deserve it.

Sam - Gene? Yeah, he would have been pretty funny too. Hoping to have some fun with this pairing though. You'll see.

Artisan54 - That may be reaching, but it is a pretty funny connection. Only so much room to explore a secondary character like Ms. Missile in this strip, but you'll get a little more on her in an upcoming SFO.
